HIRU FM, a sister radio station of Hiru News, celebrates its 18th glorious Anniversary today.
The special pirith ceremony organized in view of the 18th glorious anniversary of Hiru FM was held at the historical Kelaniya Rajamaha Temple yesterday.
That was held invoking the blessings of the triple gem for the country and its people free from natural disasters for yet another era.
It is significant that this supreme rite had been organized according to a concept of chairman of Asia Broadcasting Corporation Mr. Rayynor Silva in a manner in which all Sri Lankans could participate without any ethnic or religious discrimination.
The all-night chanting of pirith and dhamma preaching held in view of the 18th glorious anniversary of Hiru FM had been organized island-wide.
Accordingly action had been taken to conduct this ceremony centralized in the island’s 10 main Buddhist Temples including the leading sangha at the Atamasthaana, Solosmasthaana under the patronage of the Sangha of the three Nikayas.
That was also with the participation of many more Buddhist Temples.
HIRU FM commenced broadcasting on the 1st of July in 1998 and created history in the hearts and minds of many Sri Lankans by setting a new trend in the sphere of radio broadcasting.
Knowledge, Comedy, Humanitarian issues, News and other Entertainment were all combined in to the programming of HIRU FM and thus brought in a refreshing breath of freshness in to the monotonous airwaves of Sri Lanka in the form of Sinhala entertainment.
HIRU FM has meanwhile been the number 1 Sinhala radio station in the island for over a decade and received many awards in recognition of its innovative broadcasting.
Thus under the guidance of the Chairman of Asia Broadcasting corporation private limited Mr. Rayynor Silva, HIRU FM has come to the forefront of radio during the last 18 years providing the best entertainment for a Sinhala channel on radio.
