The Kapilawasthupura sacred relics of Lord Buddha will be taken in procession from Kiri Vehera today to the Sankapala temple at Pallebadda
The Kapilavasthu sacred relics which were kept for exposition under the Uththama Dhathu Vandana Vesak program at Kirivehera in Kataragama are currently escorted to Palle-badda Sankha-pala Temple.
The highest number of devotees ever gathered at the Kirivehera temple premises was reported during the last two days as thousands of pilgrims paid homage to the sacred relics under the Uththama Dhathu Vandana.
In addition, hundreds of devotees of Tissamaharama, Debarawewa, Panne-gamuwa, Thanamalwila and Uda Walava are now gathered beside the road to paying homage to the Kapilavasthu sacred relics as they are escorted to Palle-badda Sankha-pala temple.
The devotees had the opportunity to honour and worship the Kapilavastupura Sacred Relic of Lord Buddha throughout two days jointly with the Hiru Uttama Dhatu Vandanaava that registered the largest number of devotees in history that assembled at the Katragama Kiri Vehera Sacred precincts.
Hiru Uttama Dhathu Vandana – the Vesak religious ceremony commenced at the sacred site of Kataragama Kiri-vehera after the sacred exact Kapilavasthu relics were deposited in the relics chamber at the Kirivehera temple.
The sacred relics were deposited in the shrine by the Chairman of Asia Broadcasting Corporation Mr. Rayynor Silva for public exposition.
Hundreds and Thousands of devotees participated in the Hiru Shakya Sinha Vesak ceremonies held in the premises of Mahiyanganaya and Kiri Vehera in Kataragama during the last 2 years.
Last year’s exposition of relics held at the Mahiyanganaya temple drew an unprecedented crowd of devotees to the sacred site.
Meanwhile, the Hiru Shakya Sinha Vesak ceremony organized by Hiru FM and Hiru TV to mark the Vesak festival was held day before yesterday at the historical sacred site of Kirivehera in Kataragama, with the participation of hundreds and thousands of devotees.
Hiru TV and Hiru FM which continuously takes steps for the betterment of the Sasana, organized Hiru Shakya Sinha Vesak ceremony this year as well by giving priority to Amisa Puja – offering of materials and Prathipatti Puja – offering opportunity for devotees to practice the Dhamma.
Thousands of devotees who gathered at the sacred site participated in several religious activities including Sil campaigns, meditation programmes and Dhamma discussions.
In addition, as per the concept of Chairman of Asia Broadcasting Corporation Mr. Rayynor Silva, the Hiru festival of lights which illuminated the Kiri Vehera Stupa and the lighting of One hundred thousand oil lamps took place day before yesterday amidst thousands of devotees.
After commencing this religious event, Chairman of Asia Broadcasting Corporation Mr. Rayynor Silva also donated a Buddha statue to the Kirivehera Stupa.
The Kirivehera Stupa illumination was inaugurated by Chairman of Asia Broadcasting Corporation Mr. Rayynor Silva thereafter.
The lighting of the Kirivehera Relic Dome along with the Aloka Pujava religious observance held at the Kirivehera Sacred Precincts is considered the largest such ceremony ever took place in history.
